Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) Therapy
A needle-free approach to caring for persistent pain and discomfort around healed scars.
When pain or tightness keeps getting in the way, it helps to have more than one treatment option. MPS uses the handheld Dolphin Neurostim device to apply low-level electrical stimulation to selected points on the skin – without acupuncture needles.
I’ll listen to what you are experiencing and assess whether MPS could be a useful part of your care.

What Is Microcurrent Point Stimulation?
MPS combines point selection drawn from acupuncture and trigger-point approaches with gentle electrical stimulation. The Dolphin Neurostim delivers a very low direct current, measured in microamperes, through a tip placed against the skin.
Depending on your assessment, treatment may focus on selected acupuncture points, tender muscle points or the area around a healed scar. No needles are used, and the stimulation is adjusted to your comfort.
MPS is point-based treatment on the body. Dolphin Vagus Nerve Stimulation uses specialized ear attachments and has its own treatment approach. Explore Dolphin VNS →
When Might MPS Be Considered?
If you are living with recurring pain or muscle tension, I may consider MPS alongside other approaches in your treatment plan. We start with what matters to you—turning your neck more comfortably, moving with less guarding or getting through everyday activities with greater ease.
Persistent pain
For selected patients with neck, shoulder or back discomfort, MPS may be one option within a broader pain-management plan.
Tender or tight muscles
Treatment may focus on tender points and areas of muscle tension identified during your assessment.
Discomfort near a healed scar
If an old scar feels sensitive or tight, we can assess the area and discuss whether point-based microcurrent is appropriate.
People respond differently. We’ll review how you feel and how you move, then adjust your care based on your response.
Care for Discomfort Around Healed Scars
A surgical or injury scar can sometimes remain sensitive or feel tight long after the skin has healed. If you notice pulling, tenderness or discomfort around an old scar—including a C-section scar—bring it up during your visit.
I’ll assess the area, listen to how it affects you and consider whether MPS belongs in your care. The aim is to address symptoms and comfort; treatment does not erase a scar, and we cannot promise that it will change the underlying scar tissue.
Research on MPS and scars is preliminary. A small study reported short-term pain changes, but it did not establish lasting benefit or prove structural scar changes. Read the study →
New, changing or unexplained pain should be medically assessed. Treatment around a recent surgical site requires appropriate healing and clearance.
What to Expect During Your Session
-
We start with your story
Tell me where you hurt, what makes it better or worse and what you hope to do more comfortably. We’ll review your health history before choosing treatment.
-
Gentle treatment at selected points
You sit or rest comfortably while I apply the Dolphin device to selected points on the skin. You may feel a mild sensation or very little at all. Let me know how it feels so I can adjust treatment.
-
We check your response
Afterward, we’ll review your comfort and movement and discuss the next step. MPS may be used on its own or within a visit that includes other appropriate therapies.
The treatment time and number of visits depend on the areas treated, your health history and your response. I’ll explain the plan before we begin; there is no fixed course that suits everyone.
MPS as Part of Personalized Integrative Care
MPS is one tool I may use within your treatment plan. Depending on your needs, it may complement acupuncture, hands-on care or other pain-management approaches. We’ll choose treatments together and keep your comfort, health history and goals at the center.
Please tell me if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker or another implanted electronic device, have a history of seizures, or are receiving care for cancer. These details can affect whether electrical stimulation is appropriate and whether we need guidance from your medical team. Dolphin’s instructions advise against use during pregnancy or with an implanted cardiac pacemaker.

MPS Therapy FAQs
Does MPS use acupuncture needles?
No. The handheld device makes contact with selected points on the skin. MPS may draw on acupuncture point selection, but the treatment itself is needle-free.
What does treatment feel like?
You may notice a mild sensation, or feel very little. Your comfort guides the settings. Tell me if anything feels uncomfortable so treatment can be adjusted or stopped.
Will MPS remove my scar?
No. We may consider treating discomfort around a healed scar, but MPS is not scar removal and changes in appearance or underlying tissue are not guaranteed.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no set number for everyone. We’ll discuss a plan based on your assessment and review your response before recommending further visits.
Is MPS suitable for everyone?
No. Health conditions, pregnancy and implanted electronic devices can affect suitability. Share your full health history before treatment so we can choose an appropriate approach.
